Walking in Her Footsteps: Honoring Dr. RG Day and Our Women Ancestors This Women’s History Month

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we take a moment to reflect on the powerful women who came before us—the trailblazers, the nurturers, the ones who saw a need in their communities and filled it with love, strength, and determination. At EGF, we are deeply grateful for the women who paved the way, not only in history but in our own families. Today, we shine a light on one of those ancestors: Brianna’s grandmother, Dr. RG Day, lovingly known as “Mother.”

Dr. RG Day was more than just a name; she was a force in her Pittsburgh, PA, community. She was a woman of service, a leader who gave her time, energy, and heart to the people around her. Though Brianna did not get as much time with her as she wished, Dr. Day’s influence is undeniable. Her spirit of giving, of lifting others up, of creating spaces where people felt seen and supported, lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The values that Dr. Day instilled—generosity, perseverance, and service—are at the core of everything EGF stands for. The foundation’s mission is a reflection of the legacy she left behind, ensuring that her spirit of community care and empowerment lives on.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we recognize that we stand on the shoulders of the women who came before us. The work we do is not just our own; it is a continuation of the paths they forged. Dr. Day’s legacy, and the legacies of so many women like her, remind us that we are never alone in our journeys. We are guided by the wisdom and strength of our ancestors, who lit the way long before we arrived.

Today, we honor Dr. RG Day. We honor all the women who fought, loved, and led. We honor the women who birthed movements, families, businesses, and dreams.

May we continue the work they started. May we walk boldly in their footsteps. And may we always remember where we come from as we forge ahead into the future.

Happy Women’s History Month to all the incredible women—past, present, and future—who make the world a better place.

With love,

EGF
